Why is image so important?

Before I start diving into all things style related, I’d like to share the WHY behind it all.

You may have heard the phrase (and book) “Dress for Success,” but simply put WHAT YOU WEAR INFLUENCES YOURSELF AND THOSE AROUND YOU. And there’s scientific evidence to back it up. It’s called “enclothed cognition” and you can view the White Coat experiment on NPR.

I like to think of Style as mostly art with a bit of science. Our brains are programmed into thinking certain things, but it can be “tricked” as well. More details to come.

My goal here at The Stylery is to educate, inspire and empower women to use their image to feel confident and achieve a certain goal, whether it’s to enter or advance in the workforce, or get results.

So, the next time you get dressed I want you to think about what your goals are and how your image will be perceived.

How The Stylery was born

This is the story of how The Stylery got started…

In 2006, when I was working at Microsoft and was touring a model of “the home of the future,” it sparked an idea for me to create an electronic closet, sort of like Cher Horowitz’s closet in Clueless. If you were a 90s girl, you know what I’m talking about and you wanted that closet too!

But that was before the iPhone and iPad! So, after a ton of research, there really wasn’t a consumer product that would support building my idea. So, it got shelved in the back of my mind – for many years. But every once in a while, I would think about it some more, do more research and refine the idea and then shelve it again.

Fast forward to several years ago and after 2 kids, I decided to work on the idea – OFFICIALLY. On a very part-time basis, I needed to get my creative juices flowing again, so I started out blogging about outfits and in my posts would offer some style tips. It turns out that keeping up with a style blog was really hard, especially on very limited time and doing it solo. Still glad I did it though. Because it did get me to think more about my idea and turning it into a business.

I paused on the blog and actually came up with a new name – The Stylery. I want this to be THE style destination.

While working at Peloton part-time and volunteering at Suited for Change (where I help suit women re-entering the workforce in interview clothes), I was feeling so inspired. Peloton is a startup that has experienced explosive growth just in the year I was there and that really ignited my inner entrepreneurial flame. But it was the amazing Peloton instructors and community of unbelievably supportive members (some of which I was lucky enough to meet at work) that really gave me the courage to take the plunge and commit to building The Stylery full-time. And now, that is where we are.

I can’t share details just yet about the product, but I’m super excited about building it and how it will be revolutionary.
